Whitburn village is located on the North East coastline in between the river Tyne and the river Wear. Whitburn is full of reminders of its historical past the main street called 'Front Street' is lined with well kept Victorian houses, and monuments.

During the 12th century Whitburn was a small agricultural community paying duties to the church. The first record of the names of villagers was wrote in the 'Boldon Book' in 1183. However when the main road linking Whitburn to South Shields was widened, workmen found a grave lined with stone; inside was a skeleton. Experts have dated the skeleton at 2000 B.C known as the neolithic or New Stone age period.
If you look around the Village now it has changed very little, it has expanded around the edges leaving the main streets largely identical to the pictures of the past.
Whitburn Village hosts a festival every year in June advertised on Whitburns own community website.
(The festival is to be held between the 17th - 19th June 2011)
