There is a legend that two Spanish Galleons from the fleeing Spanish Armarda, crashed off Marsden Rock, a bell from one of the galleons is thought to be the bell that is in the Whitburn Parish Church steeple.
It is thought st Hilda obtained a piece of land at souter point to build a monestary which later was marked by a Small church. However the church is no longer there to back up the story.
